We don't need no education...

Today NUIG hosted a series of advising sessions for most of the departments so we can be prepared for what classes to take. It is the biggest nightmare for most of the visiting students I know. Many of the classes we were counting on are not be offered this semester so that means a long e-mail conversation with the department heads at SJU. We'll be trying to get our new courses approved for acceptance at Saint Joe's. I'll be wheeling and dealing all of next week, especially with the English department because I'm trying to squeeze this minor in when it's never really been done before (an elem/spec ed major doing an English minor). I'm convinced it can be done, I just need the higher-ups to work with me in trying to get the English courses I need while in Ireland.

Today I saw Eyre Square for the first time. It's beautiful but unfortunately I did not take any pictures because I was in the middle of a monsoon. Our search for a suitable and inexpensive wireless router took us through that part of town. The hunt ended when we bought a reasonably priced router at a store on the other side of Galway. After trekking back to Niland House in more driving rain, I installed the router to find that it is not working. I think it is probably something I did wrong as I am not and have never claimed to be an expert at this sort of thing. Luckily we have received some advice and places to turn for help and I hope to have wireless by next week. It will be such a relief when that gets resolved because I hate not having Internet whenever I want it. I'm spoiled that way.

Tomorrow I'm going to a presentation about Ireland and then a walking tour of Galway so it should be pretty cool. I'll keep updating this as interesting things happen. Classes begin on Monday!

Hi Kristin,
I hope your Galway tour was rain-free! It sounds like you've had rain every day you've been there so far. We're in the middle of a very rainy day today. It's tropical storm Hanna moving past. One weather forecaster said it would maintain its shape across the Atlantic Ocean and hit Ireland later this week. So, you have that to look forward to :)Talk to you later. Love, Mom
