Another night, another pub

Last night we went to a pub called Monroes just on the other side of the River Corrib. It was crowded and hot but the music was fantastic. It was a mix of traditional Irish music and some popular stuff that we knew. One of the highlights for me was hearing Joe Jackson's "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" played on a guitar, harmonica, violin, and accordian. Very cool. There was also a birthday party going on and after we all sang "Happy Birthday" the party broke into a round of "For he's a jolly good fellow" which was also neat.

After we left Monroes, we walked up Shop Street which is the place where most of the pubs are and there are always tons of people milling about. There were drunk people everywhere because most things were closing and apparently there were people doing hand stamps for free clubs again, but thankfully we did not see any because I was ready to go back to Niland House.

Sign above the bar: Irish spoken here. English understood. What did I tell you about the Irish and their language?

Annie, Heather, Molly, and me at Monroes. Annie and Heather live in Niland House too with the other girls from SJU. This picture was taken by an Irish boy named Michael who got us tap water in pint glasses so we would have a reason to stay at Monroes (because we were going to leave early).
