Today I actually attended my first official class in Ireland. Shocking, I know. It didn't even happen until AFTER my first class of the day. Even though Molly and I left plenty of time to get there we got so lost on campus and literally no one could help us. We ended up missing the entire class--not my favorite way to make an impression. It turned out that there was an error on the timetable we were using because it did not list the building that the class was in. At first we thought we might be asking only Freshmen for directions because everyone looked at it with blank looks but even the professors and older students did not have any clue. But in the end we tracked down the professor and it all worked out. He told us that the science department gives their lectures twice during the first week so even though we missed the first we'll be fine as long as we attend the second. He is a really nice guy--American so we won't miss any info due to not understanding him. Not that I mind listening to the Irish accent all day; I love it. :-)
So, after all that my first official class at NUIG was Literature of the Renaissance. I know, you're thinking that sounds extraordinarily stimulating and not at all like a class I could fall asleep in. No comment.
(Just kidding, I can't even fall asleep in my bed, there's no way I can fall asleep in a lecture hall.)
Molly and I ended the day with another class together: Literature and Culture in the Romantic Period. (Seriously what is it with the English department? Even their course titles make me feel like I need an espresso.) It was kind of dull (more so than Renaissance guy) but I guess it will be fine. I've already read a few things on the syllabus so hopefully having some background will help.
I'm going to bed now because I have an early class. Philosophy of Art and Literature. I'll let you know how it goes!!

Hey Kristin, I had no idea that you were writing this blog. I think this is such a neat way to fill people in on your life across seas. I literally laughed out loud when you said that thing about even the titles make me want an espresso. I was in Galway for 2 days last summer and it is an amazing place. There is a very famous fish and chips place near all the pubs and whatnot. Make sure you go there. The name is escaping me right now..but its probably O' something. Yes, unfortunately it does rain alot in Ireland.
