Chapter Two: Touring Lisbon

On Tuesday, we took the free walking tour offered by our hostel. We had beautiful weather and the tour guide was pretty good. He did not give us a whole lot of information, but basically just took a walk around the city and invited everyone to follow him.

The first place we stopped was a Church. We went inside and stood in the vestibule, but there was a mass going on and I didn't want to take pictures and disturb the congregation.

I did, however, take a picture of the ceiling because it looked cool. It is a small ceiling, but very ornate. The colors in it were beautiful.

On our way to the next stop (another church) I took this photo of the trolley cars that run through Lisbon. They're all attached to wires that ran above our heads throughout the city. It looks like a pretty neat, albeit old-fashioned way to get around.

At the second church, we were able to go in to take pictures and look around. I loved this building! There was someone playing the organ the whole time, so it was a multi-sensory experience.

The columns were so big! Also, the lighting was a bit weird inside. I'm surprised the photos from my camera came out relatively clear because usually shooting without a flash is not its strong suit.

We went into a store and these marionettes caught my eye. Creepy.

Our guide, Antonio, took us to a little patio/courtyard surrounded by houses. There were lots of clothes hanging on lines and the colors of the houses and clothes were very vibrant.

This is another scene from the courtyard. It's a strange assortment of a bird cage, a flower-covered table, and what appears to be a set of school lockers.

We went up to a terrace which was so cool. We had a view of the water below as well as of the houses of the city. The terrace had beautiful trees and a mural and everything was adorned with the classic Portuguese blue tiles.

This is a view of part of the city. I loved looking at these houses.

After enjoying the terrace view for a while, we set off to see what else the city of Lisbon had to offer.
