Reflections on a Friday in Paris

Paris is striking. The architecture is very fancy and the coloring is much paler than that of Edinburgh.  I did not see one building that did not feature at least one dark balcony on its face.  Flower boxes also abound and they are filled with all sorts of flowers, especially red ones.  Buildings are fairly small and the individual apartments appear to be small as well, at least from the street.

Paris is peaceful.  The Seine River is slow moving, creating a sense of relaxation rather than urgency.  There are many green gardens to walk through and sit in.  During our first afternoon, we sat for a while in a gorgeous flower-filled park with other tourists and Parisian families.  The parks also feature lawn chairs, including ones that recline.  There are water fountains throughout the city, not the least of which is the fantastic sculpture at St. Michel, a main meeting place in Paris.

Paris is awe-inspiring.  It was still early in the evening when we caught sight of the Tour Eiffel.  The colors of the setting sun created a perfect sky and the contrast of the tower against it was incredible.  The full view, including the river in the foreground, is amazing to behold.

Sorry for the dodgy format today. Blogger is still not working properly for me and I am working with html codes instead of photos. It's not as clean as I'd like it to be. Keep your fingers crossed for the problem to be resolved quickly.
